WBA Super-Featherweight: Cacace Elevated to Super Champion Ahead of Mandatory Samedov Bout
Updated on September 25, 2026 at 3:59 PM

The World Boxing Association has reshaped its super-featherweight division by elevating Anthony Cacace to Super Champion and promoting Elnur Samedov to regular champion. This ruling follows a breakdown in mandatory fight negotiations after British boxing authorities refused to sanction Samedov's entry to compete in the United Kingdom due to citizenship and residency documentation.
Following the venue impasse, the sanctioning body approved a petition by Queensberry Promotions under Rule C.40, granting Cacace permission to stage a voluntary title defense. The victor of that contest will have a twelve-day window to confirm their commitment to face Samedov in a mandatory bout staged on neutral territory.
The WBA explicitly stated that no further special exemptions will be granted prior to the mandatory bout taking place. Furthermore, no title unifications will be permitted in the division until a single, undisputed champion is established.
