Floyd Schofield beats Lucas Bahdi to win vacant WBA lightweight title
Floyd Schofield defeated Lucas Bahdi by unanimous decision over twelve rounds at Chicago’s Wintrust Arena. The judges returned scores of 116-110, 119-108 and 115-111, awarding Schofield the vacant WBA lightweight title.
Schofield built an early advantage by dropping Bahdi in the third round. Two later rulings proved contentious: Schofield’s knee touched the canvas in the ninth without a count, while Bahdi received a knockdown in the eleventh when the reports indicate their feet may have become tangled.
Records and broadcast
The result moves Schofield to 20 wins, including 13 stoppages, without a defeat. Bahdi suffered his first professional loss and now stands at 20-1 with 15 stoppage victories. The Chicago card was broadcast on DAZN.
Providing background to the title, World Boxing News reports that the WBA ordered Schofield to face Gervonta Davis in May but no agreement was reached. According to the same outlet, Davis was then designated “champion in recess” in June, leaving Schofield to contest the vacant belt against Bahdi.
