Tony Sims assesses Conor Benn’s defeat by Ryan Garcia

Ryan Garcia stopped Conor Benn in the second round of their WBC welterweight title fight. Benn’s trainer Tony Sims says his fighter was caught by a clean punch and offers no excuse for the defeat.

Sims questions the timing of the stoppage

Sims nevertheless believes the referee ended the contest a little early. That reservation does not alter his central assessment: Garcia landed the decisive blow on Benn.

Benn expected to leave welterweight

The exact next step in Benn’s career is not confirmed by both publications. They do agree on one point: he is expected to move away from the welterweight division following this defeat.
